A Musical Ad[venture]
I thought I'd begin by telling of my latest venture: Tracks.by. Tracks.by is the most viral way to launch new music on Facebook. The problem we're solving is simple: musicians have cultivated tens of millions of fans on Facebook, but have no real vehicle for distributing their music online. Tracks.by solves this problem; the core of our product allows artists to grow their Facebook fan base through strategic campaigns, understand their fan demographics at a deeper level, and deliver music to those fans effectively. The most interesting piece of this puzzle is how we will enable artists to make money on Facebook, but that an off-limits topic; I can't wait to share it.
After a month and a half in private beta we have 1.6 million monthly active users, and an artist base spanning nearly 170 million fans on Facebook. We're excited to be moving to public beta in the next few months with new features we think will completely redefine the way artists distribute music online.
One of our most unique (and successful) features is what we call the "love" button. Loving an artist on Tracks.by allows fans to connect at a deeper level with artists. After loving an artist, users are given exclusive access to content, are the first to know when an artist releases new music, and are alerted with an artist they love is performing in their area.
So, for the last 6 months I've been hunkered down in a house in Daly City, CA: thinking, creating, launching, and repeating. I'm extremely excited to be working with such a great team. Our average age is something like 23; so, while we all have much to learn, we also have little to lose and we're taking full advantage of that.
